Janis Adams, Attorney-Shareholder Smith, Haughey, Rice & Roegge of Traverse City, MI who advises employers on a wide array of employment and labor law issues will present:

    Conducting Human Resource Audits

Human resource leaders are responsible for managing, improving and enhancing the HR functions of their department in order to execute the business objectives of their organization.  Because of the multitude of laws affecting each stage of the employment process, it is important for employers to systematically review all aspects of their current HR policies, procedures, documentation and systems to ensure compliance with the law and avoid potentially costly litigation.

This workshop will engage participants interactively in understanding how a properly executed Audit can reveal your HR department’s strengths and weaknesses, and what methods it can use to remedy potential problem areas.  We will examine record-keeping of personnel files and I-9’s, compensation plans and pay equity scales, employee policies and handbooks, legal compliance with the EEO, ADA, FMLA, ADEA, FLSA and other laws and regulations, performance measurement and evaluation, termination and transition, supervisor training, recruitment, health and safety issues in the workplace, and best practices for your organization in order to stay competitive with organizations of similar size and type of industry.
