Our speaker will be Steve Roberts from Safety Performance Solutions. Organizations have historically focused on improving safety by addressing the work environment. Eliminating/mitigating hazards, providing better tools and equipment, and developing and enforcing safe procedures are all valuable approaches that have understandably worked well at improving safety. But many organizations have reached a plateau, finding that relying primarily on these approaches without taking a more comprehensive view of safety produces only marginal gains. This presentation will focus on principles of People-Based Safety and how following these principles can improve motivation, involvement, ownership, and personal responsibility for safety. Topics also include individual practices needed to support an ideal safety culture, as well as how the principles of People-Based Safety can positively influence safety management systems such as incident analyses, discipline, communications, and observation and feedback.
